October 18, 2014 - Celebrating International Uilleann Piping Day 2014 - Chicago!

Saturday, October 18, 2014 is International Uilleann Piping Day, a global event dedicated to the celebration of this historic and fascinating Irish instrument. Na Piobairi Uilleann, the Dublin-based international pipers club, is the primary organizer and sponsor.

To mark the occasion, NPU members organize many small gatherings all over the world and these events can take many forms. Events take place in locations as far flung as Singapore, South Africa, Malaysia, Russia, Japan, Rome, and Paris, as well as in Dublin, Galway, Waterford, Wexford, Cork, Derry and Armagh. A day-long webcast of these events is a featured part of the celebration.

The IUPD Chicago gathering is at the Irish American Heritage Center from 11am to 2pm on October 18 and is hosted by Patrick Cannady, NPU member, veteran piper and music teacher. The event features a brief performance for the NPU webcast, a presentation on the pipes and live streaming of IUPD events from around the world. Refreshments will be served. This event is open to the public and is free, but space is limited.  Send Patrick a message via our Contact Page for more information.
