Shapeshifters Theatre continues its monthly staged readings this March in the Fifth Province Lounge. Sean O’Casey’s “Dublin Trilogy” wraps up this spring with "The Plough and the Stars".
O'Casey's classic play contrasts events in a Dublin tenement with the 1916 Rising outside the door. Nora Clitheroe tries to fashion a comfortable life for herself and her husband, despite grinding poverty. But her world falls in when she fails to stop him joining the rebel forces ranged against the British army on Easter Monday.
"The Plough and the Stars" is Monday, March 7. The Fifth Province opens at 6 pm, for live music with Patrick and Karen Cannady. The reading begins at 7 pm. The audience is invited to stay for a post-show discussion with director Elizabeth Ellis and the cast.
Tickets for the reading are $10 and can be purchased by visiting www.irish-american.org, calling the 773-282-7035, ext. 10 or at the door.
