My name is Joe Byrne - I'm a flute player and singer from Co Mayo and also a collector of music,song and lore. I have been broadcasting a 3 hour music and arts show for 25 years with Mid West Radio Ballyhaunis Co Mayo Ireland. www.midwestradio.ie While visiting relatives in Chicago in May of this year I managed to record some material.... music, song lore and stories from the Irish immigrant community and especially from Mayo people. ... enough for 12 one-hour features entitled The Chicago Mayo Sessions. It is being broadcast on Tuesday nights from 11pm to midnight (Irish time) during the summer. The fourth programme in the series goes out tonight and will feature, among others, Pat and Karen Cannady recorded in Lannigans Pub. Other programmes in the series include full features on legendary Mayo musicians such as Kevin Henry and Joe Shannon piper, as well as Albert Neary, Frank Burke etc. and famous Mayo Chicagoans like Jane Byrne and Alice O Malley and Brid Looney.
